Dr Pienaar is a Fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with years of experience helping adult and paediatric patients with hip and knee disorders.
With a passion for orthopaedics, he began his Registrarship through the University of Stellenbosch at Tygerberg Hospital in 2011. During this time he also pursued his master’s degree, with a dissertation on PET/CT scans as a modality for evaluating persisting raised infective parameters in patients treated for spine TB.
After completing his specialisation in orthopaedics, FC Orth (SA) in 2016, and his master’s degree in 2017, Dr Pienaar began his SAOA-accredited fellowship in limb reconstruction at Tygerberg Hospital under Professor Nando Ferreira. He remained at Tygerberg to complete a second fellowship, in hip & knee arthroplasty, under the guidance of Dr Koos Jordaan.
While he performs surgery for degeneration and trauma of the hip, knee and lower limb, his niche lies in joint replacement, arthroscopy and the management of sports injuries and trauma. He practises at Life St George’s Hospital in Gqeberha.
